Pro-Kids Assembly

On Monday, April 30th the second grades will have the Pro-Kids assembly. The students are encouraged to come back to Gombert that night to see a show with their families.

Field Trip

On Wednesday, May 2nd the second graders are going to see the play, Nate The Great. We have been reading one of the the Nate The Great mystery stories this past week in class. We are hoping we can solve the mystery along with Nate the Great!

Book Swap

So that our Gombert Gators will have books to read over the summer, the Library Media Center will be sponsoring a book swap in the library from 9:00 until 4:00 on May 23rd and 24th. Bring your gently used books to school on May 21st-22nd from 9:00-10:00.

MEALWORMS

We finally got to meet our meal worms!!!! This was a very exciting time in 2B. You would not believe what these little meal worms can do. We had time to hold, feed, and play with them. We are very excited about these little creatures!

Reading Buddies...........

On Tuesday, we read with 4H. We each paired up with a fourth grader and read them our poetry books. They read to us as well. It was a lot of fun to read with the older kids!

Every student who returns a consent form and makes any monetary donation will receive a Certificate of Appreciation. Students who raise $35 will receive a t-shirt and students who raise $75+ will receive a t-shirt and backpack.

Go Go Gaterathon

Gombert will have the 2nd Annual Walkathon on Saturday, April 28 from 9am-10:30 am. Pledge sheets will be distributed to students to raise money for the Gatorthon. Raffle tickets will be provided based on donation amounts and laps walked, but will also be for sale at the Gatorthon. Some of the awesome prizes include Cubs tickets, gift cards, lunch with your favorite teacher, and more! There will also be class themed raffle baskets! Come to the LMC all this week to see the awesome baskets put together by classes and teachers at Gombert! The top three earners will earn lunch with Dr. Ricken and their friends. For every $25 raised, students will be entered in a raffle to win an iPod touch, and students who raise at least $50 will get a Gatorthon shirt. Don't miss out on this fun day!!

Poetry Night

We have been writing and writing poems with delight. Please come to second grade poetry night! The second graders have been working all year composing poems. We invite all families to Poetry Night on April 26th at 6:30pm!

Family Reading Night

Please join us for Family Reading Night "I Want to Read S'more!" on Tuesday, April 24th from 6:30-8pm. There will be storytellers, readers' theater, and other camping related activities. Hope to your family reading around the campfire! Also, meet Gombert's newest gator mascot at Family Reading Night!

Earth Day

Today we celebrated Earth Day in 2B. We read, The Great Kaypok Tree and then played The Great Kaypok Tree game. Mrs. Bretz even put on rain forest music to make it seem as if we were in the rain forest!

Field Trip

Second grade will be attending Norris Cultural Arts Center to see Nate the Great on Wednesday, May 2. Students will leave school at 9:15am (so please make sure your student is on time!). We will return to school at noon. If your student eats hot lunch, they will still be able to eat when we return from the trip. The cost for the trip is $3.25. Please return your student's signed permission form and cash or check made payable to Gombert by Friday, April 27.

Second grade will be having a pizza party on Friday, April 27 at 2pm to celebrate both of our Nicor: Energy By Design contest winners. Cheese pizza and juice boxes will be provided by Nicor to each student. If you have any concerns about your child participating in this party, please contact your student's teacher as soon as possible. Yum!

Skate Night

I hope to see you ALL at Skate Night on Tuesday, April 17th. I will be there skating, so turn off the TV and come out and skate with Mrs. Bretz! Skate Night is from 6:30-8:30pm.

Willy-Wonka Basket

I am still looking for donations into our Willy-Wonka Basket. I have received some of the Willy-Wonka books. Thank you if you have donated already, but we are still in need of any items that would fit into our Willy-Wonka themed basket for the Gatorathon!

No TV/Screen Week

Remember starting on Monday is the kick-off for No TV/Screen Week. There are MANY activities going on around Gombert these upcoming nights. I hope to see you at some of them, I know I will be at many of them!

Gallon-bots

The past two days in Math we have been learning about capacity. We have been discussing measuring in ALL different kinds of units. Specifically, with cups, pints, quarts, and gallons. Gallon-bot was a fun, interactive way to visually see how the measurements equal each other. We made out Gallon-bots over two days. On Friday, we finished putting them together. We HAD to take a pictures with our new friends!

Panera Night

Join Mrs. Bretz at one of her favorite restaurants - Panera - on Thursday, April 19 for PTA Restaurant Night. The Panera is located at Rte. 59 and 95th St.

Science Fair

Join the students of Gombert on Wednesday, April 18 from 6:30 to 8pm at the Gombert Science Fair. Students will be sharing their very own science experiments and projects. You won't want to miss it!

Screen Free Week

During this week Gators and their families are asked to turn off electronics and bond with their families in a "NO SCREEN" environment for a full week. Return your pledge card to be entered in a raffle. The Gombert PTA has organized events during this week to help make this a fun-filled week.

Tuesday, April 17 - Skate Night at Aurora Skate Center 6:30-8:30pm. Free admission! Accepting donations of canned and dry goods for donation to a food pantry.

Book Fair

Gombert will be hosting an Anderson's Book Fair from April 9th through April 13th. Students will have the opportunity to visit the fair during school hours and Gator families can visit after school until 4:00 or from 6:00-8:00 on Thursday the 12th.
